Pyramid patrons
Pyramid’s patrons include a number of Warrington born stars. Pete PostlethwaitePostlethwaite was a latecomer to international fame. At 49, after years of TV and theatre, he won an Oscar nomination for his part in The Name Of The Father (1993) and was soon to be seen in several major Hollywood films, including The Usual Suspects (1995), Romeo + Juliet (1996), Amistad (1997) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). The actor still finds time to star in smaller British projects such as Brassed Off (1996) and Among Giants (1999) and he is seen regularly on television. Pete McCarthyTravel Writer and comedian, the late Pete McCarthy, had been one of Pyramid's most pro-active patrons. Born in Warrington to an English mother and Irish father, Pete McCarthy was a ‘wanderlusting’ television & radio presenter who presented Travelog, Desperately Seeking Something, X Marks The Spot - and then became the best-selling author who couldn't resist adventure, danger and stout. His book McCarthy's Bar went to No 1 in the UK, Ireland & Australia and sold nearly a million copies. He also won Newcomer of The Year at the British Book Awards. Pete, who was married with three children, died in October 2004 following an eight month battle with cancer. He was a committed supporter of the arts in Warrington and made regular contributions for which those he worked with are very grateful. Sue JohnstonSue Johnston has rarely been out of work since she made her name in Brookside. Her versatility is clear, with credits including such varied programmes as acclaimed drama Goodbye Cruel World; the 50s feel-good nostalgia series Sex, Chips and Rock 'n' Roll; cult comedy The Royle Family and, most recently, psychological thriller Waking the Dead.
