The Killers – Cert PG
After two hit-men arrive in the small town of Brentwood and kill a garage attendant, insurance investigator Jim Reardon is called in to figure out who killed the ‘Swede’ Pete Lund and why. Plot twists a-plenty and a fantastic performance by Ava Gardner, another perfect demonstration of how the power female lead roles made this period of filmmaking so powerful and intriguing.
Paint It Black: Film Noir exhibition and Film Screenings
Local photographer, Paul Jackson of Unit 8 Photography, is producing a touring Film Noir inspired photographic exhibition that will feature local residents as they recreate some of the most memorable and distinctive scenes form this truly unique period of filmmaking. In partnership with Culture Warrington, LiveWire and Warrington Borough Council he plans to produce 12 photographs that will be toured around five libraries across the town. Each week the exhibition will move to the next library and the work will also be accompanied by a special film screening of a classic Film Noir.
These films have been hand-picked to showcase some of the best examples of Film Noir produced throughout the forties and fifties. Each film screening will be accompanied by a free introductory programme featuring an overview of each film plus a brief history of film noir.
